what does the word "alternative" mean when you are talking about music???Music???????????
It has nothing to do with being sad, it definitely is not hip hop or R %26amp;B, and groups who were alternative in the nineties may be pop now. Alternative music is music that is not played on the radio, may be on an independent label, may be produced overseas. It's basically what everybody is NOT listening to...yet.

it used to mean "alternative to the mainstream." now it means that a band writes songs about being sad.
I'm not too sure how to answer your question lol.. But to me, alternative is just like saying it's hip hop, or that's r%26amp;b.. But it sure has nothing to do with being sad or singing sad songs i think.. Alternative bands for me would be Linkin Park, Lifehouse, Three Days Grace, Papa Roach, even Silverchair.. That kind of thing.. I'm not sure if it makes any sense to you though.. lol..

It means: If 2 people got a solo, one would be the alternate, which is like an understudy. You would get the part would you wouldn't get to do it at the real show.
