What is the difference between studying music and studying music theory?

I plan to study music in college, but I want to decide if I should have a degree in music or music theory. I want to know what distinctions there are between the two.What is the difference between studying music and studying music theory?
Music Theory studies specifically train you for composing music (i.e. movie scores, etc). Other Music degrees can train you for teaching (BSEd), Business, or Performance.What is the difference between studying music and studying music theory?
Well I know that at my school, just a regular music degree requires you to also have a major. Other degrees, Music Education, Music Performance, Church Music, etc.. don't. A music theory degree sometimes is a music theory/composition degree. You write music and analyze scores and stuff.What is the difference between studying music and studying music theory?
Music is your major, theory is an emphasis within that major. If you study music theory, you are still studying music.

For example:

Major = Music:

Emphasis = Performance

Conducting

Theory

General

Education

If you get an emphasis in theory it generally means you intend to teach or to compose. If you do do as theory emphasis however don't let you instrumental skills go to the wayside.
